Update KJ Den Haag #8: announcement of night-time work

Dear resident/business owner,

We are currently working hard on installing the façades of KJ Den Haag. In this update, you will read about the additional measures we are taking to safely carry out the second phase of the façade installation. This second phase of night-time work will take place from Monday, 30 June 2025 until mid-October 2025. The work will be carried out from Monday to Thursday between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

A large part of the building borders directly on public space
This includes Anna van Burenstraat, the station side, and part of Rijnstraat. These zones are shown in the image below. The façade work in these areas will be carried out in phases, with additional safety measures implemented at each specific installation location.

To ensure safe working conditions, part of the work will be done at night
Installing the façades may disrupt the daily use of the busy public space surrounding the construction site. In some cases, the disruption is so significant that daytime work is not feasible. We also need to consider the people working in the Stichthage building during the day. The new KJ Den Haag development is located so close to these offices that daytime installation of façade elements cannot be carried out safely.

To minimize disturbance during the night, we are taking special measures, just as we did during the previous phase:

  • Continuous noise monitoring is in place, with sensors already installed on the façade of New Babylon. If noise limits are exceeded, immediate action will be taken.
  • No noisy activities such as chiseling or drilling will be carried out at night.
  • At night, we will only position the façade elements.
  • The anchors for the façade elements will be marked and drilled during the day.
  • If an element does not fit immediately, the anchors will not be adjusted at night.
  • Drilling and carpentry will therefore take place during the day.
  • The night crew will receive special instructions to ensure they understand the impact of their work on the surroundings.
  • Shouting and construction radios are not allowed.
  • Only battery-powered tools will be used.
  • As much electric equipment as possible will be used on site, such as forklifts, aerial work platforms, and other vehicles.
  • Construction site lighting will be directed downward and limited to the work area.
  • Vehicles may not idle unnecessarily on the construction site.
  • The passenger-goods lift will operate at half speed during the night to reduce noise.
  • Lifts will be used minimally at night. Staff are instructed to go up and down only once. Exceptions will only be made in emergencies.
  • Doors will be fitted with additional noise-reducing measures, such as rubber seals.
  • The night supervisor will strictly enforce compliance with the agreed rules.
